Akumal is a coastal seaside resort in the Riviera Maya of Mexico, in the Yucatan Peninsula. Akumal beach has white sand, a coral reef and warm waters with abundant marine fauna that includes turtles. Its name in the Mayan language means Tierra de las Tortugas, since its beach is famous because from May to October this place becomes the one chosen by sea turtles to lay its eggs. We can find the beach full of these beautiful animals. To the north, the Crescent Bay has a curved beach, while the Yal-kú lagoon is full of colorful tropical fish, along with rays and barracudas. Inside, Aktun Chen Natural Park is known for its caves, cenotes and underground rivers.
